Clogs....................................

You either love them or loathe them and I fit into the former camp.

They're Swedish, by Funkis and I shall find ways to incorporate them into many an outfit.

Have a nice day :)

My Latest, "I Made This"..................

I made this in class. We had to find a commercial pattern that resembled most closely our design, then alter it accordingly. I used a cotton chambray. I'm happy with the results :)

Australian and New Zealand Fashion..........

Fashion Exhibition

This morning I had time to kill so I ventured over to NGV to see the "Together Alone" - Australian and New Zealand Fashion exhibition. It was great to see some very left of centre designers work. I especially liked Material by Product and Doris de Pont for their quirky pieces. Also featured in the expo are: Romance was Born, Akira, World, Zambesi and Toni Maticevski.

The picture on the top is Material by Product and below is Doris de Pont.
The exhibition is free and runs until 18 April 2010.

My Sixties Chick Outfit............

Fancy Dress Party
You had to come dressed as something starting with an S or a D, as those were the hosts first initials. So I chose to go as a Sixties Chick because I never get enough opportunities to wear this dress. I bought it from Kinki Gerlinki about 6 years ago. I also wore black ruched leggings and suede patchwork platform boots. The watch is a 60's original and was a gift from a friend's mother - she used to wear it as a teenager!

I love my new jeans xoxoxo

Bettina Liano
I guess you can't see them that clearly, although the picture was taken to capture the graf behind me. They are high waisted and I looove them soooooo much :) I got them on Friday at the Bettina Liano clearance sale - yay for bargains!
I'm also wearing a purple Supre bodysuit and an Alice McCall cardigan/dress.

Don't Ban The Can
I haven't posted a thing or pictures from the "Don't Ban the Can" Festival as I was supremely disappointed. You could hardly call it a festival - 30 people in a tiny CBD laneway - loads of paint fumes. Last year was so great. It was held in a lovely huge park in Brunswick - hopefully next years DBTC will take place in an appropriate venue.

High Vibes Festival
Tomorrow is "High Vibes"Festival at High St. Northcote and I'm looking forward to the Sunny stage and hooking up with some people I haven't seen in a few years - should be good.

Another "I made this" Post.......

This is another item we had to make in class. I'm very happy with the results. It fits perfectly and I think the fabric I chose for the hood lining and pocket bindings looks pretty good. Now I have something comfortable to wear around the house instead of the ugly green fleecy thing I've been wearing for years.

Latest Acquisition

I love this new t-shirt with the enclosed fringe detail - it's a new favourite. It will have to be hand washed.

Later today I'm attending this years' "Don't Ban The Can" festival which should kick some proverbial butt. I will post pictures.

I made this totebag :)

I made this bag in class and I'm very proud of it! It's the second project so far - the 1st one was a pencil case which I'll probably show in a later post.

I wanted to make a bag that I would actually use and we had to embellish it in some way in order to get a passing grade. I was trying to avoid a crafty homemade look so I cut a piece of leather, put gold lame underneath, handstitched around the edge and put silver studs in each corner. I used the lining fabric for the handles , then added a grosgrain ribbon to give it more strength. I used iron on fusing for both the outer fabric and lining again for strength and longevity.

Now I'm just waiting to get paid again so I can buy more fabric and make more bags.

Purple Booties......................

Hello there,

I have been extremely busy lately because I'm studying fashion design and garment construction at tafe. I'm in my element playing around with fabrics and making stuff - it's ace :)

I love these Steve Madden shoes, they're on sale now for $149 although i'd be happy to find any shoes in this design. The heel isn't too high or narrow and i"m liking the envelope style too.

Coco Avant Chanel

I saw this film yesterday and although I enjoyed it, I was disappointed there wasn't more focus on the clothes and less on her relationships that enabled her to start her business. And myself being a smoker, there should have been an intermission as Audrey Tatou as Coco, practically chain smokes throughout the film, let's just say it was quite difficult for me!
It's a good film though and worth seeing.

New Cropped T-Shirt

This is my latest purchase -It's from Sportsgirl (Don't tell anyone!) I love the structural details. I love the way it fits, the colours etc....
I would like to copy this and make my own version - I had better add this to the ever growing list!
Oh yes, and sorry for my absence, I have no excuses :)

Barbie's 50th Anniversary Exhibition........

As a typical girl, I had many barbie dolls which I would play with for hours, I made my own clothes for them, cut their hair and pierced their noses - after I got my hands on my uncle's copy of The Sex Pistols - The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle!!
Barbie provided me with 1000's of hours of dressing up.
Anyway, I'm so excited about the upcoming exhibition at Federation Square from June 26th - July 12th.
Connex have a competion which closes on June 5th - All you have to do to enter is send in a photo via email of Barbie at a Connex, tram, train or bus location to competitions@connex.com.au to win a double pass to the exhibition and a limited edition barbie doll to commemorate Barbie's 50th Anniversary.
It doesn't say anything about multiple entries so I think i'll enter a few. I took a pic on the train the other morning with Barbie holding onto the hand rails! - I got a few strange looks - Fingers crossed that I win - I think there are 5 prizes in all.

There's a tag on your sleeve!!!!

With winter lurking around the corner, I've noticed an alarming trend and that is: People leaving the 100% Cashmere tag on the sleeve of their new coat.
You see a lot of this on public transport in the colder months. It makes me wonder if the person simply has no idea and that it's part of the garment or if they want all and sundry to know that they can afford cashmere. I should carry a quick-unpick with me and offer to remove it for them free of charge - ha ha - I mean, it's pretty obvious to me that it's a temporary thing as it's only stitched on the four corners and not entirely like the tag inside the garment on the collar. I'm not sure how I'd go approaching someone without sounding incredibly smug and smartassy. "Um, excuse me Madam/Sir, could I unburden your coat of that tag on your sleeve?" ha ha - No, I don't think there's any approach that wouldn't be interpreted as obnoxious and brazen - Oh well - I'll just have to suffer in silence :/

When I Grow Up I Want To Be Stylish.....................

When I get older I'm going to be a stylish granny as opposed to the tracksuit wearing grannies who frequent the pokies on pension day. I say this because recently I saw a very elegantly dressed elder personage and I was duly impressed. Just because one is aging doesn't mean their standards should slip. Anyway, I shouldn't have any excuse because by the time I'm 70 I hope to have amassed stocks of bags, coats, shoes etc, etc..........

Scarf made by me

Car Trouble....................

What an expensive morning!!! On our way to the city, the alternator decided to die and the gods must have been semi smiling upon us because the car died at a most opportune spot. Thirty seconds later and the situation could have been very nasty indeed. The Racv guy arrived almost immediately, replaced the alternator and $560 later (including joining up to Racv) was on his merry way.
The cute picture of sheep which some may call graffiti/street art/vandalism was on a wall beside where the car broke down. I like it very much, it's cute and witty. If you cannot see the words clearly, it says "the lord is my shepherd, I shall not think"
My outfit shot was taken on Thursday evening and I'm wearing a dress by Valleygirl - big surprise!, Pea coat by H&M, leggings from Target, hat from Sportsgirl.

Lula Magazine..........

This afternoon I finally got a chance to look at Lula Magazine in the flesh and I certainly wasn't disappointed. It is printed on lovely paper, nice and thick, beautiful editorials and interesting stories, without all the fluff one usually finds in fashion magazines. I would call it an "intelligent" fashion magazine. I thought the price was fair too, $15 Australian.
My Autumnal outfit consists of:
Skirt by Shakuhachi which I absolutely love because it feels as though it were made especially for me.
Leggings from Target
Boots from a nameless store in South Melbourne
Top from Metallicus
Jacket from Quick Brown Fox

Advertising For Free

I'm often puzzled by humanity and this morning was no exception. Perhaps I should have studied psychology!
But anyway, what is it with people (mainly women) who use a paper shopping bag with a company logo to lug their crap around in?
In Melbourne the most common are Kookai bags ( and here I am giving them an inadvertent plug in this rant!) Although, this morning at the station the offender was sporting a "Review" bag.
Now perhaps I'm being hasty in my judgement and maybe she doesn't own a decent enough tote bag or the only other bags at her disposal were plastic supermarket bags but I tend to think that these bag carriers want everyone to know where they buy their clothes. And to add more clout to my argument, I recall seeing on Ebay a while back, a listing for paper Louis Vuitton bags and they were up to around $25 - Oh Dear - Why on earth would one pay to advertise and for a paper shopping bag? I mean, logo t-shirts and bags are thankfully on their way out. I guess buying your way into a high end label is as close as some people will get to wearing the stuff. I'm getting off the point here.
Personally I find it silly and embarrassing to be advertising for free. If your outfit has style no matter how much lucre you parted with, then you shouldn't have to tell people by carrying the shopping bag - end of rant :)
Oh yeah, and I like some of the clothes in Review.
About my outfit today: Notice I've worn the same hat 2 days running - I have this tendency to wear things until they're threadbare.

Grungy Tuesday..............

My posting frequency has been all over the shop lately, so I shall try and post more regularly.

My outfit today has a kind of grungy/pretty feel and a little French flavour thrown in with the hat. I love that the weather is cold in that I get to wear tights - Yay!

Normally jeans or pants are de-rigeur for me - in fact, so much so that it has become like a uniform. It occured to me recently that I have so many lovely dresses and skirts in my wardrobe that are just sadly hidden away and frankly it's a waste. So from here on in I plan to steer away from the skinny jeans uniform and embrace some femininity :)

Monday, Monday..............

This is what I wore today as it's freezing ass cold in Melbourne. The dress was a gift from my darling yesterday, the belt came from an op-shop ages ago - it's French and the shoes are "Naughty Monkey" brand and I'm not used to wearing high heels, they hurt! But I love wearing them, so I will persevere :)

Look What I Made......

I saw a belt just like this in a magazine for around $180 and thought "I could make that" and so this is the result. I would like to make another though, with a softer leather and make the belt part shorter in length.

Snake Charmer and Kick Ass Leggings........

My latest buys - The bracelet from the bargain rack at Diva - I love the orange diamonte eyes and tail. And the leggings with ruched detail from target. I can't wait for the weather to cool down to start wearing these :)

Outfit Post........

Here I am wearing the earrings, headband and skirt from the previous post. I would have worn the shoes too, but one of the heels needs repairing :(
The little satin jacket is from Valley Girl.

Hand Made Shoes...............

I was very lucky to find these lovely handmade leather shoes in my local op-shop this morning. They fit perfectly, have never been worn and seem to work with my yellow headband, egg yolk yellow bakelite hoop earrings and the skirt - which was a dress in a former life.

I can see that an outfit post will be in order soon.

1920's flapper necklace..........

This little beauty came up on a saved ebay search I get sent daily. OOOOh, I love it! Especially the scarab beetle as I love bugs too.
It's $60 at the moment and I'm as broke as a gadooli - It's a good time for me to bust out the beads, findings and fimo.

I'm Back...........

Unfortunately I haven't been on some lovely sun-soaked holiday. I've been visiting the hospital since Boxing day as my beautiful younger sister was in a terrible motorbike accident whilst visiting us from London and had her leg amputated. It's a difficult time but I want to keep this blog going.

Now that I've explained my absence, this cute plaid playsuit from Topshop is very nice indeed. That's it for now - until the next post - Adios :)
